Take Care of your Salty Hair!

Anyone who lives by the ocean knows that saltwater corrodes everything. As soon as you get out of the ocean it is vital to rinse off your body, your boat, your surfboard, your leash, your fishing poles, whatever it is that you want to last for as long as possible.

The number one overlooked, most irreversible part of your body to protect from saltwater is your hair. Your hair is what the sun hits first and although you can protect it from the sun with a hat, it's impossible to keep it from the saltwater.

Besides using my hair protection that I created to seal in moisture for up to an hour (like a waterproof leave in hair treatment), I have 5 tips to share with you for taking care of my hair post surf/saltwater!

  1. Try to rinse your hair out with freshwater AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Don't try to comb through it - that's where most of the damage happens, from trying to rip through your hair and ripping it out.

  2. When shampooing, only focus on your scalp! The ends of your hair are already dry enough and shampoo will just further strip your hair of it's natural oils.

  3. Guacamole Whip Deep Moisture Hair Mask

This is my favorite mask to use 2-3 times a week as conditioner after shampooing! It smells so good and leaves your hair so soft. When conditioning/using masks, be sure to add extra to the ends of your hair.

4. Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Conditioner for Damaged Hair

This is my favorite leave in conditioner! It bonds those split ends and repairs damaged hair.

How it works: The pH-balancing formula has an acidic pH to defend against the negative effects of hair coloring, styling tools, and even water, which has a pH of 7, to balance hair's pH back into a healthy range of 4.5-5.5

5. Get that hair trimmed! If the damage has already been done, you can't save your hair sis I'm sorry. Go ahead and get it trimmed little by little until it's back to rescue mode. If those hairs are too far gone - let em go, I'm telling you from experience. Your hair will grow back, shinier, healthier and happier! And for those of you with healthy hair - be sure to get your hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks.
